To add a website link, open TikTok and go to Profile → Edit profile → Add next to Links, then follow the website setup prompts. TikTok currently lists two eligibility routes: at least 1,000 followers, or a Verified Business Account. TikTok's profile-link guidance.
Before you paste a URL, decide where the tap should take someone. Your website may be enough. For an app with iOS and Android versions, a smart app link can route visitors to the store for their device.
01 Check whether your account can add a website
Having a business account and completing business verification are different things. TikTok's current guidance names a Verified Business Account for the alternative to the follower threshold. Its business-verification guide also distinguishes this from the blue-check badge and says feature access can vary by market and account.
Check the options on your own account before switching settings based on an older tutorial.
02 Add and check your link
- Copy the full destination URL you want people to open.
- In TikTok, open your profile and edit it.
- Select Add beside Links, then complete the website prompts.
- Return to your profile and open the saved link to check the destination.
These setup steps follow TikTok's current help article. Use the dedicated link control, rather than relying on visitors to copy an address from your bio text.
Give people a reason to open it. For an app, "Download our habit tracker" tells them more than "Click here." The destination should match that promise.
03 If the website option is missing
Check your follower count and business verification status, then return to Edit profile after any relevant account change. If you appear eligible but still cannot add a website, use TikTok's support flow. A link service cannot unlock the website field or make a plain address in your bio behave like that field.
04 Choose the destination for your app
| Destination | Use it when | Check before sharing |
|---|---|---|
| A website or app landing page | Visitors need an explanation before downloading | The page loads well on a phone and has clear store buttons |
| One app-store listing | The audience is deliberately limited to that platform | Visitors use the supported device and the listing is available |
| A smart app link | One profile promotes both iOS and Android versions | Both store destinations and the website fallback are correct |
With AppRoute smart routing, configure the App Store URL, Google Play URL and website fallback, then use the resulting URL as your profile link. Basic routing does not require a mobile SDK. The app bio-link page explains the setup in more detail.
Someone opening the fallback on a laptop still needs a useful page. Show what the app does and how to continue on a phone.
05 Open the link from your TikTok profile
A desktop browser check won't show you the whole path from TikTok. Profile links open in TikTok's in-app browser, and some external link chains may prompt visitors to continue in their device browser. TikTok's link guidance.
Use this blank worksheet before sharing the link widely. Fill in what happened on each device.
| Test | Expected result | Observed result |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone: open from the actual profile | Intended iOS listing or configured destination | Record after testing |
| Android: open from the actual profile | Intended Android listing or configured destination | Record after testing |
| Desktop: open the saved URL | Helpful website fallback | Record after testing |
| Open after a destination change | Updated destination through the same public link | Record after testing |
Check the app name on the listing and note any unexpected prompts. Repeat the checks when you change destinations. The routing checklist covers the rest of the setup. Browser prompts can still appear; a routing link doesn't guarantee that every visitor goes straight into a native app.
06 Know what the click report tells you
Give the placement a consistent campaign name. You might use utm_source=tiktok, utm_medium=organic-social and utm_campaign=app-launch. These are example values; use your own naming scheme and check how it appears in the report. The UTM guide has more examples.
Use click analytics to see traffic to the link. Note your setup tests separately. When a campaign is new, a few taps from your own team can account for much of the activity.
On Pro and Team plans, AppRoute also imports overall Stripe and RevenueCat revenue for comparison. Revenue attribution from individual link clicks is coming soon. A rise in clicks alongside revenue does not establish which visitor installed the app or made a purchase.
07 Common questions
Can I add a website without 1,000 followers?
TikTok's current alternative is a Verified Business Account. Check its current eligibility and verification guidance; switching to a business account alone does not complete business verification.
Can I add a website without a business account?
TikTok lists the 1,000-follower route as an alternative to a Verified Business Account. Check which link options appear on your profile.
Do I need AppRoute to add a TikTok link?
No. Use TikTok's own website-link control for a normal URL. AppRoute is useful when that URL should route app visitors to different destinations and record clicks.
Will a smart link prove how many downloads TikTok generated?
A redirect records a visit to the link, not a completed installation. You'll need installation measurement to answer that question. AppRoute's revenue attribution from individual link clicks is still coming soon.
Create your smart app link, test the destinations, then save it in your TikTok profile and repeat the checks from there. Review the first traffic before expanding the campaign.
